CoolSculpting: How to Prepare and What To Expect From This Body Contouring Procedure

At our Calgary vein clinic, we offer our patients customized CoolSculpting treatments to give you the most effective, fast, and satisfactory results. During your consultation, we will assess your aesthetic goals, the areas you need treated, and your eligibility, to determine if this is the right cosmetic procedure for you.

Here’s what you can expect from the CoolSculpting treatment, how to prepare for it, and what results it can yield:

Preparing For a CoolSculpting Treatment

  • Arrive in comfortable clothes to your treatment, Disposable clothing is provided because the thick gel that is used for skin protection may stain your clothing.
  • Eat a light snack or meal before your appointment. Limit beverages and caffeine immediately prior to the treatment.
  • Avoid taking anti-inflammatories before your treatment.
  • Movement is limited during the treatment, so don’t bring any activities to occupy your time. We want you to sit back and relax!

What to Expect From a CoolSculpting Treatment

  • Treatment time will vary depending on what part of the body you are having treated. The procedure can take as little as 35 minutes per treatment area, allowing enough time to relax, watch a quick show, or take a small nap before you head back to work.
  • Your healthcare provider will apply a gel pad and applicator to the targeted area. The applicator will deliver controlled cooling to the fat to freeze and kill them. These will be naturally eliminated from the body over the next few weeks.
  • Expect some mild discomfort, such as sensations of pulling, pinching, or intense cold. These sensations will subside as the area becomes numb.

What to Expect After Your CoolSculpting Treatment

  • Following the procedure, a gradual reduction in the thickness of the fat layer will take place. Your body will naturally eliminate the injured fat cells for up to 4 months after the treatment.
  • Most patients have minimal discomfort after the treatment. However, you may experience one or more of the following sensations: tingling, numbness, bloating, aching and/or soreness. Contact your CoolSculpting provider if these conditions persist beyond 14 days or worsen over time.
  • Within 3 weeks - 3 months you’ll start to see the incredible changes from this treatment.
  • You’ll need to schedule a follow-up assessment to review your results.
  • Try to maintain a healthy diet and regular exercise routine following your CoolSculpting treatment.

3 CoolSculpting FAQs: What You Need to Know

Before undergoing any cosmetic procedure, it is always advisable to schedule a consultation with your healthcare provider. During this time, they can determine your candidacy and answer any questions you might have.

Here are 3 of the most commonly asked questions about CoolSculpting:

1. How Many Sessions Do I Need?

While some patients may experience a significant change after one treatment, many people require two or more sessions for the most benefit. Larger or more stubborn areas may require at least 3 sessions to reduce bulk. During a consultation, your technician can give you a better idea of how many treatments you might need for optimal results.

2. How Can I Get the Best CoolSculpting Results?

CoolSculpting works by freezing fat that is then metabolized through the body. This process relies on the lymphatic system to help with the elimination of the treated fat. As a patient, you must take care to watch your diet, avoid processed foods, and increase your water intake. Moderate exercise will also improve your circulation and support the best results.

3. Can I Return to Normal Activities Following the Treatment?

Yes you can. The procedure is completely non-surgical and requires no downtime. Some patients may experience redness, minor bruising, tingling, numbness or discomfort in the treated area, but this is temporary and will resolve completely. Most patients return to work or normal activities immediately after their CoolSculpting appointment.
