Everything You Need to Know About Microneedling

Are you looking for a way to rejuvenate and strengthen your skin for a more youthful appearance? Here’s what you need to know about our customized microneedling treatments and how they can help you achieve all your aesthetic goals.

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that uses a device covered with tiny, shallow needles that causes a ‘micro-injury’ which prompts your skin to stimulate collagen production, resulting in smoother, softer, and more youthful-looking skin.

It can be used effectively to:

  • Plump up the skin for a more youthful appearance
  • Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
  • Tighten sagging skin
  • Eliminate skin pigmentation
  • Fade stretch marks

At our Calgary vein clinic, we offer a wide range of minimally invasive, anti-aging treatments, including chemical peels, microneedling, and IPL photorejuvenation, to help you eliminate any fine lines, wrinkles, or skin blemishes for brighter and more youthful-looking skin.

What Happens During a Microneedling Treatment?

Despite its name, microneedling is considered to be one of the safest skin treatment procedures and it causes minimal damage to the skin, while producing excellent anti-aging results.

How Long is One Microneedling Treatment?

This procedure is well-tolerated by most patients and it takes up to one hour to complete, depending on the area to be treated and the severity of the problem.

Some things you should know include:

  • Don’t apply lotion, makeup, or other topical products to the treatment area on the day of the procedure
  • Your skin care practitioner will apply a numbing cream on the treatment area to make you as comfortable as possible
  • The skin will be punctured in a specific pattern using a skin needling device
  • As each fine needle punctures the skin, it creates a micro-wound which stimulates cell regeneration
  • A minimum of 6 weeks is recommended between two treatments as it takes that long for new, natural collagen to form

What are the Benefits of Microneedling?

Microneedling is growing in popularity and for good reason. It offers patients numerous benefits, including:

  • Reduced risk of scarring or hyperpigmentation
  • Suitable for thin and sensitive skin and areas of the skin not suitable for chemical peeling or laser resurfacing, such as close to the eyes
  • Your regular activities can be resumed in a few days
  • It’s a safe and simple procedure that can be performed in an office setting
  • The epidermis remains undamaged, as opposed to ablative laser resurfacing

Am I a Suitable Candidate for Microneedling?

Since microneedling is minimally invasive and uses needles instead of heat, it’s safe for all skin types and tones. However, it is NOT recommended for patients who:

  • Have a skin infection
  • Are younger than 20 years of age
  • Have deep lines or wrinkles
  • Suffer from certain skin conditions, such as psoriasis, active acne, or rosacea

During a consultation at our Calgary clinic, our qualified skincare specialists can assess your skin, medical history, and aesthetic needs to determine whether or not microneedling is a safe and effective procedure for you.
