3 Main Differences Between BOTOX® and Juvederm

For men and women looking for quick, affordable, and effective anti-aging treatments, there are many different products available. Here are three main differences between Botox and dermal fillers and how to decide which treatment is right for you.

Minimally invasive anti-aging treatments such as Botox and Juvederm are growing in popularity amongst men and women who are looking to quickly and effectively rejuvenate their appearance.

When compared to traditional cosmetic surgeries such as facelifts, these injectables offer numerous benefits, including:

  • Lower costs
  • Short treatment times
  • No disruption to daily schedules
  • Natural-looking and long-lasting results
  • No surgical risks

These injectables yield impressive results without requiring any surgery or recovery time. During a consultation, our skin care specialists can assess your aesthetic concerns, goals, and skin type, to determine which minimally invasive treatment is your best option.

Anti-Wrinkle Injectables vs Dermal Fillers: What’s the Difference?

If you are looking for a minimally invasive cosmetic treatment that will help you address signs of aging, you may be deciding between anti-wrinkle injectables such as Botox and Dysport and dermal fillers such as Juvederm and Restylane.

In order to make the most informed decision about which one is right for you, it’s important that you fully understand the similarities and differences between these treatments.

Anti-Wrinkle Injectables and Dermal Fillers: Similarities

Both dermal fillers and anti-wrinkle injectables are minimally invasive cosmetic treatments that are designed to eliminate signs of aging such as wrinkles and fine lines.

In addition to this:

  • Both are injected into the treatment area via an ultra-fine needle
  • They should both be administered by a registered medical professional
  • Both are medical treatments referred to as cosmetic injections
  • They offer patients long-lasting, but temporary results. Repeat treatments are required to maintain your results

Anti-Wrinkle Injectables vs Dermal Fillers: Differences

However, despite their similarities, anti-wrinkle treatments and dermal fillers use different products to achieve different anti-aging results. Here are some of the differences you should be aware of:

They Treat Different Types of Wrinkles

Botox is often used to treat dynamic wrinkles (those that result from repeated facial movements) such as crow’s feet, forehead lines, and lines between the eyes.

On the other hand, dermal fillers can treat static wrinkles (those that are caused by your skin’s loss of elasticity). This includes wrinkles and fine lines around the mouth and cheeks. Dermal fillers can also be used as an effective lip enhancement treatment and may help improve the symmetry of facial features.

They Have Different Durations

Both anti-wrinkle injectables and dermal fillers provide temporary results and you will have to undergo repeat treatments to maintain your youthful appearance. In most cases, Botox results will last between four to six months.

In the case of dermal fillers, Juvederm can last up to 18 months. Other hyaluronic acid fillers can last between six to 12 months.

MAIN DIFFERENCES BETWEEN BOTOX AND JUVEDERM

They Use Different Mechanisms to Achieve Anti-Aging Results

Botox and dermal fillers don’t use the same mechanism when dealing with signs of aging. Botox works to temporarily relax the muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, minimizing their appearance and preventing them from developing. On the other hand, dermal fillers plump up the treatment areas, smoothing out any signs of aging.

Will I Get Natural Results From Minimally Invasive Anti-Aging Treatments?

One of the biggest benefits of both Botox and dermal fillers is that they can provide natural-looking, excellent anti-aging results. However, how satisfied you are with your results will depend on the units of injectables used and most importantly, your skin specialist’s expertise.

That’s why it’s important to choose a well-trained and experienced professional to administer your procedure. Make sure you discuss your treatment with your aesthetician during your consultation, including what you want and expect from the procedure.

FAQs

Q: Who should not have Botox treatments?
While Botox is a safe and effective treatment for most patients, you should not undergo this anti-aging treatment if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, under 18 years of age, have an infection at the treatment site, are allergic to any ingredients in Botox, or have a chronic disease that affects your muscles.

Q: Are these minimally invasive treatments painful?
No! Both Botox and dermal fillers are administered using an ultra-fine needle and most patients find the treatments comfortable and pain-free. In addition, the treatments take between 15-20 minutes and you can continue with your daily routine after the procedure.

Q: How often do I have to have treatments?
When the effects of your dermal filler or Botox injection wear off, you will need to have repeat treatments. Typically this is every three to four months for Botox and six to 12 months for hyaluronic fillers. The effects of Juvederm can last up to 18 months. However, if you have had previous treatments in the same area, you may notice that your effects last slightly longer.
