What to Expect From Your IPL Photorejuvenation Treatment
IPL photorejuvenation is a safe and effective way of instantly improving the appearance of your skin. However, to ensure the safest results, it’s important to know how to take care of your skin prior to your first treatment.
Often, patients are advised to:
- Avoid sunbathing or the tanning station at least 2-4 weeks before the treatment.
- Stop using retinoids, tetracycline, and minocycline for a few days before the procedure.
- Avoid the use of aspirin or ibuprofen at least 7 days before photorejuvenation.
On the Day of Your Treatment
Before your procedure begins, you’ll be given protective eyewear to protect your eyes from the bright light flashes. A cool lubricant may be applied to the treatment area to cool your outer layer of skin during treatment.
After this:
- Your skincare specialist will apply brief light pulses through the handpiece to your treatment area.
- You may feel a warm sensation as the light wave strikes your skin. Depending on the treatment area, this procedure can take a few minutes to an hour.
- Once your treatment is over, you may be given an ice pack to soothe any discomfort.
After Your Treatment
After your treatment, it’s important to take good care of your skin and follow your skin specialists instructions to ensure you get the best results.
- You may notice some swelling or redness where the laser has been applied, but this is temporary and it will resolve on its own after a couple of days.
- Avoid unnecessary sun exposure following your treatment to protect your skin.
- If you are outside, even on a cloudy day, make sure to wear sunscreen.
